Road and Track Day, Manfeild, 27 August 2011

Manfeild. The place to seperate the boys from the men. and the women from the boys too I guess…. bu that’s not all that hard usually.

Anyway – Road and Track day. A few of the boys were going up to do some sweet laps of town… i mean… laps of the track. So I followed on up in the Cube (no it didn’t make it on the track).

Sean and I snapped some photos whilst there for all the punters who couldn’t make it.

Rumour has it, that the above Datsun coupe was running a mid mounted rotary engine…? I didn’t spy it myself, but it sure did sound pretty mental.

Andrew put the pass on this R33 at pace! Skyline had no chance. Needless to say, we all went bananas in the pit lane watching him pass it with ease.

This Corolla was KILLING IT out there. Iain, here’s some inspiration!

Now.. Here is my favourite car of the whole day.

Nissan N15 Pulsar VZR. Engine is an SR16VE + T. Making over 200kw at the front wheels. Had a chat with the owner (a bloody good bastard) and he says it fries up the front tyres round every corner, so there’s certainly a knack to driving it.

As we left, We spotted a few sweet cars sitting in the carpark. I requested Sean take a photo.

Altezza - with added goodies

Now I’ve left what I thought were some pretty special cars to the end.

First up is Baz (the owner of Burgerfuel Jville) and his Ford Falcon drag car. Don’t ask me what year it is, or what it’s running. The engine is too big for me to comprehend. My knowledge stops at pretty much anything over 3000cc…
He bought it out especially for us to have a look at. GC!

Dragster

He explained to me that if he drove it nicely, it would use about 8 – 10 litres of fuel to drive from Johnsonville, out to the Hutt where he lives…. That’s quite a lot…..

Dragster

and to make it even more impressive, he tells me that he was giving it a bit of a caning and practising some drag starts, managed to use 10 litres… in 8 kilometres…..

Burgerfuel Falcon Drag car

He is potentially the sole reason for global warming – but who cares! it sounds and looks awesome.

Now for my favourite car of the whole evening.

An 80’s Toyota Cressida, in mint original condition. Right down to the stereo.

Pimpin Cressida

In absolutely immaculate condition.

Whips

When I saw the condition of the paint on this car, my jaw hit the floor. The owner also tells me it’s the same paint it left the factory with, and the whole car has just clicked over 70,000kms. Yes SEVENTY THOUSAND. That’s sweet fuck all in Toyota time.

Cressida

I was so impressed, not only with the car, but with the owner himself. Harley (the owner) is a very young lad (my guess is about 18??), and has chosen to steer away from the usual trend of removing the springs, putting a monster tacho in it, chucking a dumpy or rice cannon on it, and fitting it up with some sweet chromes boe, and he has gone the right way and left it original – just the way it should be. For his efforts he won a free dinner from Burgerfuel. There’s no way I could let his efforts go even slightly unrewarded. Churs for bringing it out, Harley!

and to the rest of you. Thanks for coming out. Once again it was good to catch up with all of you, meet a few new people, shoot the shit, and have a good feed.

UNTIL NEXT TIME.

PEACE!

JD’s 1998 Toyota Caldina GTT

Boom. This car has changed hands from Bwarp OG Stac, and is now in the hands of another Bwarp OG, Josh D.

Glad to keep it in the family because it is farkin’ COOL.

Here’s some proper pics while it’s still clean. (please note the wind was wreaking havoc on my tripod – ITS NOT HEAVY ENOUGH – so excuse the buzz on the photos :-S )

Juiced Track Day – Taupo 21/08/2011

A friend, Sean, had the opportunity to get out to the Juiced track day at Taupo Motorsport park. He took some excellent photos, so I thought it’d be worth him doing a write up to share the day with all of us who couldn’t be there. Words and pictures all credit to Sean Clarke. Chur bruddah. Let’s hope he stays on as guest contributor/photographer.

————————————————-

So we packed up the camera gear and headed down to Taupo Motorsport Park to attend the Juiced Track Day held on the 21.08.11. Now this is the first time I have seen drifting face to face and boy was it an experience. You can watch as many video’s online but nothing beats being there, hearing the RB’s on the limiter, seeing tyres exploding and the smell of the smoke.

IMG_1048

There were a range of cars attending from street spec/legal silvias.

IMG_1455

This corolla wagon was pushing hard all day and was packing a SR20DET.

IMG_1305

And this Cefiro was rowdy and the driver definitely had skills.

This was my first time taking action shots so i was trying to get the hang of panning.

IMG_1220

After lunch, the drivers were getting more confident and some close battles followed.

IMG_1227

IMG_1459

I’m not quite sure what was in this S15, but it sounded like a V8, and had smoke pouring off it the whole track.

IMG_1062

This driver was out most of the day, and loved putting on a bit of a show for the cameras.

IMG_0998

Tough AE86. Again i’m not sure what was in this, but it wasn’t a 4AGE bark like i was expecting. Maybe another SR20.

IMG_0929

This KP on semi’s actually had an EJ20 Subaru motor shoehorned in there.

IMG_0915

And here is another KP, but on the other side of the spectrum. So clean.

Here is a particularly friendly dog that was sniffing around the pits and lounging in the Taupo sun.
